CORPS Texas International! computers Provided to Technology
Without Borders for Pierdas Negras Project
With
computer technology an essential component of society in the 21st
century, people must have access to computers and the skills to use
them to be successful academically and in the workforce. TECH
CORPS Texas is a non profit organization contributing to meet this
need. The organization refurbishes computers and delivers them to
low-income students and communities in order to help achieve a computer
literate technology society.
Recently,
TECH CORPS Texas (TCTX) refurbished five computers, which were donated
to Technology Without Borders (TWB), a non profit organization run by
students from the University of North Carolina. This is the second year
that TCTX has supplied computers to the TWB project. This year, the
computers went to a community technology center in Piedras Negras,
Mexico. The computers that TECH CORPS Texas supplied were loaded with
the Kubuntu Linux operating system and Open Office.
The computers are
now providing valuable opportunities that will greatly impact community
educational achievement and professional and personal development.
If
you or your company would like to participate in valuable
technology based social ventures such as Technology Without
Borders, there are many ways to get involved. These include the
donation of excess computer hardware, cash contributions,
and volunteer service. To obtain more information click on Get Involved
